Dec. 10th Surgery Date

After careful consideration of all the information I have available to me, I've decided to have a double Mastectomy on Dec. 10. Thank you to all of my wonderful friends and family who have cheered me up during this stressful time. I am relieved to be moving forward and feel like I have the best medical care.

  1. So what is the healing process like? Are you going to be moving around well by Christmas? Hopefully you'll have lots of hands around helping you move thing, wrap things, etc.

I have an extra set of hands here!! :-)

  2. Hum..what's the healing process like? I'm told I will have two to four drain tubes that I will wear for 2-3 weeks. I will have a pain pump of local anesthetic for 1 week. I can't drive for 2-3 weeks. I'm not supposed to lift my arms above my shoulders for 2-3 weeks. No bath for 1 week. No shower until drains are removed. I'll most likely not be able to sleep on my side for a LONG time, which should prove to be challenging because I'm a side sleeper. I'm having our chair moved into the bedroom for me to sleep in. Oh yeah, no housework for 3 weeks. No lifting more than 10 pounds for 6-8 weeks, and I can start light exercise after 1 week.

I'm excited at the prospect of my daughter finally learning how to cook, if her dad will actually let her do it. My kids are old enough appreciate what its like to plan meals, grocery shop, and cook.

I will wrap the gifts I've purchased so far. My husband and kids will be on their own for anything purchased after the 10th. :)

Thanks for asking and offering your lovely hands!
